Web Design Case Study

NGO Mental Health Awareness Platform

About the Client

SMIF Nigeria is a mental health awareness NGO operating across Nigeria and the United Kingdom, dedicated to reducing stigma, providing resources, and advocating for better mental health support within African communities in the diaspora. As a nonprofit operating in a deeply sensitive space, they needed a digital presence that balanced professionalism with warmth, accessibility, and genuine human connection.

The Key Challenge

Mental health NGOs face a unique digital challenge — their website needs to feel safe, approachable, and trustworthy to an audience that may already be vulnerable. At the same time, it needs to communicate organisational credibility to donors, partners, and institutional stakeholders. Balancing both without compromising either was the central design challenge.

content and design had to feel human and approachable without sacrificing organisational credibility

the site needed to serve both individuals seeking mental health resources and institutional partners and donors

operating across Canada and the UK required messaging that resonated across both markets

Our Solution

Brainbucks revamped the website for SMIF Nigeria — built around a warm, accessible visual identity that communicated both human empathy and organisational professionalism. We structured the site to serve both primary audiences clearly, with dedicated sections for individuals seeking support and for partners and donors looking to engage institutionally.

Sensitive Design Direction

We developed a visual language that felt safe and approachable — warm colours, human imagery, and copy that spoke directly to individuals without clinical distance or institutional coldness.

Dual Audience Architecture

The site was structured to serve two distinct audiences simultaneously — individuals seeking mental health resources and institutional partners, donors, and collaborators — without either experience compromising the other.

Cross-Border Messaging

Content and imagery were selected to resonate across both Nigeria and UK contexts — reflecting the diaspora communities SMIF serves without defaulting to a single geographic frame of reference.

Result

SMIF Nigeria launched with a digital presence that accurately represented their mission, served their community, and communicated credibility to partners and donors — across two continents.
