Data for Impact Forum 2024: Advancing Health through Data and Technology
November 1, 2024
The Data for Impact Forum 2024, organized by the NaijaXcell Youth Consortium, took place on September 20, 2024, at Sweet Spirit Hotel & Resort, Asaba, Delta State. Themed “Harnessing Data for Social Good: Advancing Health Outcomes through Analytics,” the forum convened leading professionals, innovators, and data enthusiasts from across Nigeria to explore how data-driven insights can be used to improve healthcare outcomes and social systems.
The NaijaXcell Youth Consortium—comprising JION Clinical Research Center, Brainbuck Co., Mothercare Initiative, and the Data Science & Analytics Students’ Association (DELSU)—aims to foster collaboration between data professionals, technologists, and healthcare experts to solve national challenges through analytics and innovation.
The panel session featured distinguished voices, including Mr. Ezekiel Olukunle Aboderin (Fintech Expert & Data Scientist), Mrs. Teniola Ajayi (Health Informatics Specialist), and Dr. Chioma Nwokedi (Public Health Data Consultant). Together, they examined how big data and emerging technologies can help reduce maternal mortality, strengthen immunization tracking, and enhance decision-making across public health programs.
One of the forum’s key highlights was the Ideathon Demo Day, where young data scientists and innovators pitched analytics-driven ideas aimed at solving real-life healthcare problems. The panelists served as judges, assessing the teams on innovation, feasibility, and potential impact. The winning team presented a data visualization model to help local health authorities better monitor maternal health outcomes across rural communities.
Special Recognitions
During the closing session, three panelists received special recognition awards for their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s data and technology ecosystem:
Mr. Ezekiel Olukunle Aboderin, for his leadership in advancing data innovation in fintech and applied analytics.
Mrs. Teniola Ajayi, for her ongoing work in promoting data-driven healthcare delivery and health informatics training.
Dr. Chioma Nwokedi, for her expertise in public health analytics and her mentorship to young professionals in the sector.
Their recognition underscored the forum’s commitment to celebrating individuals who blend data intelligence with social impact.
In her remarks, Cynthia David, Convener of the Data for Impact Forum, highlighted the importance of initiatives like the NaijaXcell Youth Consortium in fostering collaborative problem-solving.
“Our goal is to empower a new generation of data-driven thinkers who can turn information into innovation. The future of healthcare—and indeed our nation—depends on how well we use data to make life better,” she said
The Data for Impact Forum 2024 not only deepened conversations around data-driven development but also strengthened partnerships between academia, civil society, and private innovators.
It reaffirmed the NaijaXcell Youth Consortium’s mission to keep using data and technology to bring clarity, accountability, and measurable progress to Nigeria’s healthcare system. At Brainbucks, we are proud to be part of the community pushing for real change in Nigeria, powered by data.
